Moon, you might have legal cover through your Work, Union, Bank even worthwhile routing around, or your partner may have cover which would extend to yourself?
Good luck.
Good luck.

UPDATE
Looks like the car will be getting repaired. Just spoken with the bodyshop and it needs:
Anti-roll bar link
Suspension arm (dunno which one)
New wheel bearing
Wheel hub
New rear wheel
New front ns wing
Repair to door and rear quarter
full alignment check (didn't mention geo...)
Anybody else had damage to the rear suspension after hitting a kerb and can maybe suggest any other issues that I need to enquire about? A bit concerned about the rear axle / diff etc.
It's being repaired at Richmond Body Repair Centre. Anyone used them? Seemed very professional on the phone but going to have a pop down tomorrow for a look see.

If it was the other parties fault, you won't be claiming against your own insurance policy, so you won't pay the excess.....
Deal with the other person's insurance company directly
Don't pay for a hire car yourself - get them to sort one out for you.
On a like-for-like basis.
I ended up with an SLK after their initial offer of a Vectra / Mondeo / Accord

A few comments:
1) This sounds like a non-fault claim against a 3rd party. So why are you driving a 1.2 Ka ? You are entitled to a like for like replacement for your vehicle.
2) This can be a completely stress free experience.
I used these guys http://www.europaconsultants.co.uk/ (anniesdad on PH) when I had a minor incident recently.
They sorted all the paperwork and dealt with the claim quickly and easily. I didn't even see any of the paperwork except for the loan Cayman S they gave me. My car could have been repaired within a week if I didn't delay it. The repairer even re-gassed the aircon

Thanks for all the comments..... To be honest although it would be nice to get a like for like hire car I only need one for the rest of the week then I'm away for a fortnight. I should know better tomorrow how long the repair will take so if it's do'able in the next 3 weeks I'll stick with the Yaris. If it's obviously going to take longer then I'll kick up a stink for something more comparable.
My main priority at the moment is to make sure the car gets repaired properly and knowing how finicky the S can be for alignment issues I'm keen to make sure that gets addressed.
Re: my excess I've been advised to contact the third party insurance in an effort to claim non-insurable losses of which the excess is one apparently. I wonder how easy that will turn out to be.....
