Well - it's only 4,994 miles to go before I can VTEC again

Just picked up my car after the engine replacement (see the 'Recall' thread)
There was a message from Honda UK saying I cannot exceed 5,000 RPM for 5,000 miles as this is a brand new (literally) engine and therefore it has not been run-in on a test bed
5,000 miles is about 3 month's motoring at least for me in winter. No VTEC for 3 months?
I've asked the dealer to double check with Honda on Monday. That cannot be right! When I were a lad and cars used to carry a sign in the back window saying, "Running In - Please Pass", IIRC the running in period was about 1,500 miles

Pete,
Ouch!! I can't believe they would issue you with an engine that hasn't been properly run in!?
Look on the bright side, at least you'll get a VTEC for Christmas!!

Pete,
I think you should complain on the grounds the restriction is for an unreasonable length of time. Nobody would want the car well a lot less would if they thought their patience would be taxed that way. I remember When I first Vteced mine it was on your doorstep coming back from Holland... mileo notched on 600 and I took off like a bullet!!

so what happens on this test bed that simulates the 5,000 miles of use could your car be run at the required revs i.e. stationary in neutral for the required number of hours to achieve the same result? or is this a bit simplistic?
know anyone with a rolling road
5,000 miles without VTEC is torture plain and simple

seems a bit unfair since it was their fault in the first place.
suggest request a rolling road facility - a petrol tanker and a brick for accelerator, you should be done in about 48hrs.
