This weeks Autocar Headsup
Just a quickie...
When I was in WH Smiths I had a quick flick through Autocar and there is a preview (driven in Portugal) of the new 350Z roadster. I saw them in the states last year and really liked them in the flesh, not so nice in the pics.
I won't spoil the review by saying everything but generally it was very good, especially for value for money. They thought it was very powerful but not as focused as the coupe due to bend and scuttle shake.
The car also weighs in at a mighty 1647kg which put me off. Thats heavier than a 6 series beemer!! On one hand they claim it is faster than a Z4 3,0 then show the stats as 0-60 in 6.4. The Z4 is good for 5.9 sec and 0-100 in <15secs. I think the 350Z will be slower than the S, far more bulky and more of a cruiser than the S.
Its a shame but to be expected considering the weight of the coupe. ThinkI have just ruled that one off my potential next car list
Just left with the S again and possibly the 350Z coupe for a change.

This was fairly high up my list until I drove the Coupe before xmas - sadly I missed the S2000 USP (9000 rpm) too much.
I read the review last night, and they certainly don't seem as keen on at as the coupe. 100kg really is an awful lot of extra weight to be carrying around, and questions over scuttle shake don't bode well. Even further down my list now for when I replace the S.
This issue of Autocar did however raise a potential replacement for me - grown up version of the Elise - bigger engine, more room, more practical. Sounds very interesting................

I thought about the 350 before getting the S and remember a few pics of the roadster. That back end in the picture is bloody awful, it looks like you could set out a meal for 6 on it. Think I'll be staying with the S for a while

What's that? a Ford Ka for people with a Booty fixation?
1647KG? That's more than an AMG SLK/NSX/etc.
It's a shame, really. Why don't they give it the coup de grace - Reno badges!

I really like the coupe - but the roadster is an absolute disaster.
what is it with this fixation for bringing out convertible versions of every bloomin car these days - whether they look good or not - the convertible micra is an utter travesty!
