Waterless coolant

Electrical transformers use oil. Funnily water isn't very good at cooling electrical items
Anyway regrarding water not being a coolant... Air is also a transfer medium to something else. The whole universe works on the principle of energy transfer so don't be a pedant about definitions of a coolant and a medium
There seems to be a lack of thermodynamics understanding with many of the things posted above too. I really can't see why a £200 coolant is necessary.

Totally with you on the Phase change stuff though and I also don't see why you'd want to spend £200 on coolant when water has worked so well for so long.

why not improve the radiators heat transfer ability..... instead of a new fluid.... regarless of what heat transfer meduim is used the overall "cooling" effect will improve... if you improve the radiator... increasing the air contact patch with the radiator will improve cooling.... water spray onto the rad will also imlrove heat transfer.
If you want to avoid rust in the system.... best put the wonder fluid in during design process so it's assembled as OE.
Interesring reading. Yummy.

no need to improve the radiators heat transfer, it works as it is, and you know what they say "if it ain't broke...." A cars cooling system is designed to run the engine at it's optimum temperature the radiator is well over spec as it is that's why we have switched fans and a thermostat to keep it there, if the thermostat sticks open in the cooler months it would never get up to temperature. I know I had that happen to my old CRX.
