Thanks for your input guys, really appreciated.

I'm no expert when it comes to any of this kind of thing so wanted to find out the pros and cons really.

So I think it's best to just bite the bullet and get myself an engine.

I'm liking the look of this one on ebay.....

Ebay motor

It has low mileage, it's a 2004, a 30 day warantee and he has great feedback and has sold engines before.

So even though it's only proof of mileage is the odometer reading, I have got to take a risk on whichever engine I go for and he has answered a lot of questions for me and is quick to respond. Seems to be a genuine guy.

What do you guys think?

I'm not 100% on the difference's having not being around them too long, someone else will have to confirm, but just from experience if that's the engine in the pic then it looks a bit tatty for a low miler, plus has it got the pre 04 PCV valve set up, it may be n archive pic

Haha that's why I love this forum. I don't know how you can tell its not an 04 but that's why I posted it, I knew someone would spot something.

What about this one then?

He hasn't got back to me on the year yet but it has service history to confirm the mileage....

This is indeed a 2004+ engine. I just can't see from the photo the throttle body if it's a DBW motor or not. But looks good if the mileage is proven

So how can you tell for sure this is 2004+ and the other isn't?

Just so I can see the difference for myself.

Do you know what is the PCV valve? It is located on the engine cover the red one somewhere in the middle on the right hand side of the engine cover. If you check the 2000-2003 engines have different PCV valve than the 2004+ ones. It's the one that is connected to the intake through a black tube.
