Looks like the plug destroyed itself / melted coilpack and the pistons ate the leftovers.
Spot on!

Question: With it not looking too scorned, would it not be possible to bore this out and get oversized pistons/rings (or even just the one)?

Stock F20C sleeves are FRM. I have read that in order to bore an FRM sleeve the machine shop must have the special tools -stones to do it which I doubt they have and follow a special procedure. So most people will say you can't do it due to the procedure and tools needed

Could you just get the sleeves replaced with Darton liners? I know it's probably better just to buy a replacement 2nd hand engine, but it is a solution.

Yeah but that's only if you didn't sleeve it surely?

It wouldn't need such a technical procedure if you were to bore it with the intention of putting a sleeve in would it?

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this. Surely people have had a bigger bore for turbo builds etc?

Is the FRM the reason people say its best to get a new engine, have there just been loads of cases of it not being done correctly?

Why is it better to replace the engine buddy? What are the main issues people have when repairing these engines?

Sleeves is exactly what I was thinking....

This is one reason.

Haven't read of anyone to be honest to do that due to the technical procedure and tools required although Honda gives oversized pistons

Wouldn't be able to do it for a couple of weeks but could have a look and give you a damned good idea what killed it.

Well, replacing the FRM sleeves with Darton ones costs about $600-$700 in parts from America, then you would get the import tax on that. The most costly part of the install would be the machine shop fitting them though. You would need the proper machines etc and someone who knows how to use them. Not sure on the cost as a whole but you can pick up 2nd hand engines off eBay for £1500.

Here is the price of Darton sleeves from America, http://deftmotion.com/honda-acura/00...f20c-f22c.html

The Darton sleeves cost next to nothing, the big expense is getting and paying somebody trustworthy and competent to install them, its a precision job fitting them.A second hand engine is the way to go.

You've then compromised the rigidity of the original block by boring the middle bit out of it.

So there's a lot of potential issues.

And you've still got to put the head damage right.

So a lot of work, unless you really want a 'built' engine. And that probably won't last long.

BTW - they are called 'stroker' kits for a reason and that's because the bore size is pretty fixed. You can only really hone FRM bores.
