Well it seems it is a new engine job guys! I'll tell you more once I see the car tomorrow morning but its apparently in a pretty bad way!!

Just out of interest, there are one or two eBay adverts that offer supply and fitting of a low mileage S engine for around £2300-£2500 has anyone used these or got any experience with the garages involved?? Just wondering if its something worth considering??

I can't believe how many engines are going pop recently!

SO damn scared as F20C's are becoming rarer now!

They've been failing for years.

You seem to get a few letting go at once then nothing for a while. Their has been a few of late though.

Sorry to hear about your motor. If I were you for these money I would try to source out a facelift (2004-2005) engine. How many miles on your old engine? Did you ever change or checked your retainers?

Checking your links the second engine is not from a 2005 model as stated. Also none of them state the mileage on the engine and talking by experience as I have bought an engine from UK in the past the state mileage is not always the truth. I suggest you ask the vin number of the donor car and try to check with Honda to track the service history of the car. If the service was done in an official Honda garage you will be able to find some information of the mileage as they keep in the main server the mileage of each service

My old car was supercharged then back to na, I sold it with 176k on! Still runs sweet as a nut.

Sorry to hear about your engine, you want ideally 04/05 engine since were regarded one of the best and will work with your car no issues unlike dbw era ones with changing bits etc.

As above there are some twunts out there selling dodgy engines.

Cheers for your replies guys.

I'm off to see the car in a bit so will know exactly what happened.

I'll take my time finding an engine then. Best not to rush it and get one that is a bit of a dog or has no mileage proof.

There is one on ebay, 2004 engine, they are claiming to be on 28,000 i sent them an email to see if they have any service records or documentation to prove the mileage. This was the reply.....

"Hi,

The vehicle came in to us through insurance so no history to back up mileage im afraid, 28,000 miles was what it stated on the speedo meter. Engines was tested and ran sweet. Its on at £2400 or open to nearest offer

kind regards"

How much do you think is a reasonable price to fit a new engine by the way? Never had to go through this kind of thing before, so have little knowledge and don't want to get ripped off.

No I'll be honest this was not something I ever checked mate. I only got the car in November, had the timing chain done straight away but that's about it.

It had just shy of 80,000 miles on the clock.

Most people here in Greece tend to change or at least check their retainers at 100.000kms not miles. There are many cases ( I think it is mentioned also on the USA forum) with crack retainers mostly on the intake side with 00-03 engines. That's why they change them with AP2 retainers on all sides or at least from the intake side.
