vtec safety???
strange thing happened to me on the way home from work tonight....pulled out of work and towards the main road. i was sitting at the junction and traffic was a complete nightmare! i saw what i thought was a reasonable gap but some @sshole in a BM coming along decided he didnt want me in front of him. i pulled out and gave it a little (!!) gas, but as usual the car is so quick i went straight through to vtec, only this time the car acted exactly the same way as if you hit the rev limiter. all this @6000rpm (the normal vtec kick in). initially i thought wow, all the way to 9k revs that quick but then i realised what had happened. i looked at the engine temp and it was still on one bar. a little further down the road i floored it to make sure that all was ok and vtec'd quite happily. the engine had warmed to 3 bars.
all i can conclude is that the engine must somehow have a limiter on cold, whereby vtec isnt possible. what do you guys think?

LOL Yes. You can't exceed 6K revs till you have a full 3 bars on the gauge to avoid over revving the engine till up to temp. This still catches me out occassionally in the mornings and when you're really going for the gap in first or second expecting another 3K revs, it's not a pleasant experience. Hitting a brick wall springs to mind. Must look very uncool to the observers too!

Yep, I did it when demonstrating to someone how quick the car was! Scared the hell out of me,as I had no idea what happened. I tried again later and realised it must have been the limiter, still, its a bit harsh isn't it.
Better us than knackering the engine though

lol..well im glad that its normal and that there isnt anything wrong with the car!
it was a bit harsh..it seemed harsher than the normal 9k limiter...def uncool!!
still, mr bm didnt know what hit him when i got down the road!
i like getting BMs...for some reason they give me the most satisfaction!!

How long does everyone's car take to get to 3 bars?!?
Mine is usually there within a couple of minutes..... is this normal?!?!
I just ask as I have read quite a few threads with people talking about this "cold engine" rev limiter, but I rarely get a chance to test it as I am up to 3 bars so quickly.
