Some more details of where this plate is please, sure I could check this myself. Ta.
Mine has just been serviced by a Western Honda unit but they didn't suggest this.

I'd also get it done at a dealer because at least you then have good grounds to get something sorted if the engine does fail. As easy as the DIY is, they can always claim that because the inspection was not done by Honda there is no evidence to support premature failure.
Equally though in the result of failure they could always say they inspected it and it looked fine at the time. Tricky either way if that is the case but the former is what sits at the forefront of my mind with the recommendation they have made.

There's always a third option of having Honda inspect it whilst you watch them - no one can argue about the outcome then.

I know the branch I use has dealt with an '09 engine failure so perhaps they're just being cautious. I'll let you know how I get on.

I had mine off today, so here's some pics for anyone wandering.
First time I have been near one tbh. Very simple to do. 3 bolts go horizontally into the block which you can see the holes for in the above pics, then it will come off.
I was missing one bolt so took it off to check size etc for a replacement. They are m6 50mm long. Didn't check the pitch size but I would imagine it 1.25. My local bolt shop had them in stock. Original is the bottom one.

Western Honda Edinburgh- my experience was from 2011 so maybe not totally relevant in 2014.
They did a poor job on my valve clearances - utter shite when checked a few months later

My car is an 07 plate with 23K miles
I had an issue with it last year where VTEC was not engaging in higher rev range. Honda identified the fault being a blocked VTEC solenoid spool valve - I assume the mesh gauze part. They replaced the whole solenoid and changed oil and car has been fine since.
But do I need to worry further about potential engine failure down the line? What would cause the gauze part to get bunged up?

I had some in my 3rd s2000, I cleaned it and checked 500 miles later and car so far is fine - fingers crossed, not sure of history of my car but it could have came when sump was replaced thus sealant scrapped off.
