VTEC Gauze Inspection - any advice please....
Hi, I've just had my '09 model serviced (5yrs / 24k miles) by my local Honda dealer who has recommended I rebook to have the vtec gauze inspected for metal particles. It's a precautionary measure based on some '09 models having experienced engine failures. I don't have the technical knowledge to know whether this would be a sensible or useful precaution and would welcome some advice from other forum members.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yeah this really isn't a tough job!

What AJ said - its that simple. Once the cover plate comes off you can see the small gauze.

I deal with Western Honda in Edinburgh and have been very happy with the service from them.
Even though it sounds a simple DIY job - maybe even with my limited skills - I'll ask the dealer to do it. I have a Honda extended warranty and, in case of future claims, I think it will be better to have an official record of the inspection.
Thanks everyone for input so far.

Some more details of where this plate is please, sure I could check this myself. Ta.
Mine has just been serviced by a Western Honda unit but they didn't suggest this.

It's a K series block but whatever, the VTEC solenoid bit is mostly the same - 3 bolts hold that cover plate to the outside of it. Last time i did mine and replaced the gauze and seal ( cured an oil weep ) it had nothing in the gauze at all.
