Default Very odd noise!

When I'm driving along slowly, coming to a stop or in traffic - 1st or 2nd gears, every so often there's this little high pitched noise! It sounds like a little animal or something! Happen when I'm going straight.

It seems to be random, it doesn't happen all the time and I'm pretty sure it doesn't happen at higher speeds although the road and engine noise might be louder.

It sounds like it's coming from the passenger rear wheel area (bearing in mind I'm in a left hooker).

Any suggestions?

At best bearing or brake issue, at worst lsd problems.

I'd go with bearings at this stage.

I'll have it checked out when it has a service in a couple of weeks.

I forgot to mention that it lasts for about half a second! like a soft high pitched bark or squeak!

Thanks

Not just the air-con compressor you're hearing?

Do you notice it when you stop and it cools down? ie the sound happens linked to movement or occurs when stationary also?

They all whistle a bit on acceleration. It sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car on mine, I suspected a faulty diff only to be told that it was a normal sound It's normally more noticeable round town when you're not going for the full 9k experience

Is it a squeek or a whine?

with Neil

Slight 'tweet' from the air intake when you accelerate lightly around 3k revs IIRC. Nothing to worry about. Play with the accelerator and see if that's it. If so, slightly more optimistic outlook than CC's brakes/diff

I was out earlier and there is a definate but feint sound when the engine/gearbox is not loaded. Not acceleratong but not slowing either - I hope that makes sense. This is not what I'm on about though.

It could be the AC compressor but it's in the wrong place.

The drive I had earlier didn't make the sound and that involved slow and VTEC speeds.

It doesn't happen when stationary and it almost soounds like a yelp - it's not constant. Happens maybe one one trip then three times the next. As I said, very random.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing of consequence.

I`ve heard enough there Ast, it sounds very much like the start of wheel bearing.

Try and listen whilst you turn in a certain direction. Clutch it and coast - you'll hear it mo re, see if it is connected with turning, although that isn`t conclusive in bearing fault at an early stage.
