Too tight may reduce the heat transfer from the valves into the seat and burn out the valves. You will get a 1 thou more lift though

Spot on.

Yes Gary, I tried 7/9 when I did that video. Did I notice anything? Not really no.

I'd stick to 8/10

Cheers for the explaination chaps.
Well I'll give it the 800 miles for this week and set them to 8/10 next weekend to see if I can feel any difference.

Sorry to be the one to drag this back out of hibernation! But i've got something bouncing around in my otherwise empty head that i want to run past you guys

I checked and re-set my valve clearances a few weeks back to eliminate them as the problem causing my engine to make a ticking noise (louder than i'd expect for normal mechanical noise) anyway.. i set them all to mid-spec and no diffenence. so last weekend i stripped my tct and overhauled it.. no real difference either.

I'm still convinced it's top end so i'm going to re-adjust my clearances this weekend, but this time i'm determined not to struggle with wiggling feeler gauges down and under the adjuster screws to measure clearance between the screw and top of the valve stem. Unless i'm overlooking something, it won't make any difference if i measure the clearance between the cam lobe and the roller follower will it? just seems the easier way to go about it?

I'm just a bit concerned that the roller following will ease any resistance on the gauge and give me "false" readings?!

Any thoughts or other input are greatly appreciated

So when you did your clearances you went under the adj nut !!unless I am a complete muppet that is where you are going wrong, you're supposed to check the clearance from the base circle of the cam lobe to the follower arangement.

Cheers.....Tony..

Yeah, i had the feeler between the adjuster screw and the top of the valve stem as I've always done on everything I've ever adjusted clearances on!

I had a feeling i'd seen something along the lines of adjusting between the cam lobe and follower before, but can't think where

Unless i'm being dim, i shouldn't matter which end you set the clearance should it? the gap will ultimately end up being the same, surely? But anyway, if it's recommended to adjust at the follower end i'll do that! Thanks
