Valve Adjustment

Valve Adjustment
I need to get the valves adjusted on my S2000 as it's starting to make a tappety noise on cold starts.
How much should I be looking to pay at a specialist?
The car was serviced roughly 6 months / 1500 miles ago so am looking at just the adjustment for the time being.
THanks

A specialist? $20 worth of tools (bent feeler gauges and 10mm combination wrench/screwdriver) and a Saturday morning and you can do it yourself. There's a detailed photo essay in the maintenance section. Print it out and take your time. Process is simple. Tedious but simple. The issue is seldom with loose valves but too tight. Adjust to the loose side of the spec as they tighten in use. If you can change your oil you'll have no problems with this.
Easier to rotate the engine with the spark plugs out. If in doubt replace them, they're not expensive. A complete gasket set is an inexpensive Ebay item as well. While the plugs are out do a compression and leak down check.
The engine needs to be cold (under 100°F) to adjust the valves so you'd have to leave it overnight somewhere anyway.

Thanks for the reply.
I've had a look through the tutorial thing on how to do it but at the moment I don't have the time to do this myself. Doesn't seem like a too difficult task to take on though!
It's only just started making the tappety noise, would this be a big problem if I left it for a few months ( circa couple of thousand miles)?

Since the valves tighten in use they get quieter, not noisier. "Clicky" noise is often the Timing Chain Tensioner (TCT). A 15 minute job requiring only a socket wrench (probably 10mm like every other bolt on the S2000), an Allen wrench, and needle nose pliers.
Read those threads before deciding it's the valves.
The Billman Gen-X TCT is my choice. I did it as preventive maintenance two summers ago. Billman has a core charge and I got my money the day he received the OEM TCT in the mail. Highly recommended.
What year car? USA?

With my previous S2000' the TCT rattle only ever happened when the engine was warm and this is more of a tappety noise on cold starts.
It's a Facelift car over in the UK.

I'm pretty sure it's about a £120 job - plan to leave it with the garage to cool down as it needs to be at ambient temp before the work can be done.
As above, are you sure it's the tappets ? It won't hurt to get them done either way though.
