I'm not sure I agree with the former. Rare colour or not, it's not going to be THAT much of a selling point to anyone other than Honda anoraks like us At the end of the day, it's a high mileage JDM import car. Discount the colour (which I suspect the majority of punters looking on, say, Autotrader would do) and those are negatives rather than positives.

I'd certainly agree with the latter though. The best prospect of a sale at a premium is to someone who reads on here (or perhaps at a push in the PH classifieds).

Hang onto it, Man!

I'm quite interested in the value of S2K's at the mo' having asked the forum not long ago what mine was probably worth and was suprised at the replies to say the least...

Strangely, ALL replies valued my car at LESS for a private sale than I had already been offered trade by a non-Honda dealer who was going to have to shift the car on to another dealer as they wouldn't market the vehicle themselves...and not by an insignificant amount either...

I've therefore come to the conclusion that the value of S2K's is very dependant on mileage and condition and has nothing much to do with age at all - or the fact that they might be JDM (I'm obviously not saying that older cars are worth more than newer ones but a MY99-01 car in good condition is definately considered equivalent to a 2003 car in most buyers eyes). In fact, the MY99-01 cars seem to be quite desirable - especially if they are HPI clear and have been properly cared for (and are becoming rarer all the time ).

You only need to look at the price of the older cars on Honda's own website e.g. 2001 cars regularly going for

Gad might buy j33lus's motor - he's into that sort of thing.

Shame it doesn`t have some more placcy tat on it - that'll seal the deal.

Imports had more stigma in the early days because people didn't know of the impact of any differences. For example, early Prelude JDM's were expensive to maintain with parts needed from the motherland.

In addition insurance was expensive and Honda dealers were wary.

On the flip side if you do your research you get a low mileage cherished car which as it ages, looks a better deal than some of the ragged out UK examples.

The insurance and dealer issue is now gone so things are starting to balance up a bit.

I expect to get less than a UK equivalent when mine goes but I saved

Surely JDMs are worth less for the same UK model year. When I first started looking at getting an S last November, for roughly the same money, I could get a JDM 2 years newer.

I still think that JDM status becomes less and less important, as the car ages

A seven year old car will sell on condition above history

And I still believe the price floor for a car that has no HPI record, and is in generally good condition, is
