Default Valcve Clearance - Bedford Area

Good Afternoon All,

I would like to have my valve clearance checked and adjusted where required and would like to know if anyone can recommend someone in the Bedford area?
Also, has anyone adjusted their clearances to those recommended by Billman?
My car is a Facelift 05.

Thanks

surely if your competent enough to strip down an engine and diagnose the failure cause you can do your own valve clearances

Very true, just a bit limited on time at the moment.
Have looked at getting the proper tool and doing it myself, just thought its always worth getting some quotes from local places that can be recommended. Would never let any garage touch it who I dont trust to have experience in the job.

Any feedback on the 2nd part of the original question? Anyone run the altered clearances stated by Billman? (Need to re-read the thread as going by memory, but think it may have actually only been for DBW systems).

What proper tool is that then? I used normal tools and straight feeler gauges, you don't need angled ones.

How did you go about adjusting the screw while tightening the nut? When I did the valve clearances on my civic, I did a bit of a bodge by seeing how much the screw twisted when tightening the nut, and just took that into account when setting it. Always checked with gauges after setting, but id prefer something a bit more certain for my S2000.

That's what you normally do. I can't remember whether or not I could hold the adjuster while I tightened the locking nut now as it was a while ago, but doing it the way you did before is fine. You get a feel for how much the adjuster moves when you tighten the lock nut when you've adjusted a few valves! The clearance alters a little if you're holding the adjuster at the same time too.

When I did mine I ordered a special tool off ebay, I can't find a pic of it at the moment, but it is like a box spanner with e screwdriver through the middle of it, was about £15 I think,, worked brilliantly.
