Default Urgent***** Reading codes on an 07

Trying to read the CEL codes off an 07 but the reader is coming up with a linking error. We know the reader works on a 99. Anyone know what we are doing wrong?

Tried it with plugging in, turning on ignition - no good
Turning on ignition then plugging in - no good
plugging in, turn on iginition, disarm immobilizer - no good
turn on, plug in, disarm - no good (I think I'm starting to sound like Timothy Leary)
Can't figure this one out...

I vaguely recall reading on here that some OBDII readers don't like the newer cars. Some other brands of reader are fine.

It's like you have ESP. How did you get sorted in the end? I don't really want to buy a reader for something I am fairly certain is a one-off...
