It's best not to guess! Not sure how else it can determine engine load without the MAP signal?

Sorry Mark you've missunderstood me - my fault.

I'm not saying dont use the MAP sensor. BTW I'm not guessing I'm going on what 'ninebolts' said when he rang them up i asked him if they tune via the MAP sensor methiod, they said the unichip works differently now and can adjust vtec etc etc.

1. For example a better piggyback will takes control by itself the fuel and ignition using its own injector and ignition maps so map voltage, TPS Vs RPM table etc. You satisfy stock ECU and the ECU is happy.

2. Now consider the MAP method fudge the stock ECU to +/- fuel by modifying the MAP voltage the Stock ECU looks at, in theory adding fuel could inadvertantly advance ignition timing.

Also though VAFC2 will not be learnt over in WOT but I've said this before.

Now with DTA on the westfield (F20c) dropin is was a new ball game due to being a standalone.

I believe the unichip used to use method 2 (hence the it will learn over it argument).

Interesting discussion chaps...

Having an MY00 S2000 I've been reading that my car runs the richest out of all of the s2000's (Looking how quick my exhaust cokes up after cleaning the exits I could easily believe it !)

I'm lead to believe that just putting on an AEM EMS and getting it properly mapped will give a noticeable performance improvement.

I had been thinking about going FI either turbo or supercharged, but im getting more and more tempted by sticking N/A and just getting the right bits ont here tuned properly...

If your car runs rich, it would probably be best to diagnose the problem rather than mask it with an AEM. It's less likely the ECU is doing it alone. Do you have an AFR graph?

You may have something like a duff MAP sensor or other fuelling fault.

But an AEM will get every last drop of power. It's the way i'm going.

AJ - I sort of get what you mean, after deciphering it DTA doesn't have much relevance to this topic though - wandering again

the DTA reference is relevant just as relevant as you mentioning the 'AEM' which is obviously a standalone like the DTA.

No AFR Graph, but its always run like this and I got 243 BHP on the dyno (massive innit)

Any idea where I could go and get an AFR run on the car for reasonable cash?

Ah ok, well you can't really just go off the colour of the exhaust. But you said it's been on the dyno - did they not show your AFR?

Where are you based?
