Default Unexpected lump on my HKS

Got a bit carried away a few days ago and ordered some extra parts.

Round 1 was Geo and Brakes.(Done)
Round 2 is Strutts and braces courtesy of Chris Franklin.(Ordered)
AND
Round 3 is GenII CAI, Ber kTech Decat and HKS Silent.(Maybe should not have ordered, yet.).

So, on the Y saped section of the exhaust there is a cylindrical chamber attached to the centre of the Y shaped part (sorry for the tech speak!). This is quite large.

What the heck is this for????

Its not my fault that I ordered the exhaust parts - they all said that they were in stock so what could I say? All parties have been excellent.....

GenII - Jays,

Bill the big cylinder in the middle is for silencing which the car actually needs a fair bit. It's by no means a straight through but with the decat and the K&N you are going to LOVE the sound.

Oddly your mods are similar to all the ones I'm planning with the exception of the brakes which I will only do when they NEED to get done.

Time to invest in a new head unit though

Which struts and braces did Chris F recommend?

It's called a Hemholtz resonator, I think. As Boab says, it's part of the noise reduction mechanism in the exhaust.

I could not help thinking that the "Hemholtz Resonator" was going to create a lot of back pressure at what seems to be a fairly critical part of the exhaust for smooth airflow. I guess that this has a silencing effect?

I sort of chose Cusco for front upper, lower and rear lower strutts braces. Chris seemed to agree and was in the process of putting an order together when I called to discuss. I think thhat they are probably middle of the road for price and stiffening?

Can't wait to hear the new setup. I will do before and after videos I think.

Will.

LL, I believe an l is alot between lawyers, what another 80/90 quid for a redraught?

Cusco seems to be the favourite of the moment.

How much are you paying for the two lower ones?
