Default UK Car on Dyno?

Is there anyone who's dyno'ed a UK car yet?

I'm curious... and thinking longer term about some upgrades. I'd be happier if I knew some baseline UK dyno figures for comparison.

At least over here we don't generally have to worry about excess temperature and humidty giving lower results

I am also looking to dyno. As well as any base numbers for the UK car, if anyone has reccomendations for rolling roads who are experienced with the S2000 please put them on the board. I have dealt with TDi who have supplied parts (HKS Racing suction kit/ Exhaust) and say they can modify the timing and air-fuel. They have not tuned an S2000 but have many other Honda's (incl NSX). They say they need a day but looking at the US forums it appears that at least 2-3 visits may be needed to get the mapping right. They charge around

I'll post if I find anything concrete. There seem to be plenty of places that specialise rolling road setup for turbo cars, but not so many for NA.

The Mugen ECU might be an option, but the experience of some Honda-R members with ITR Mugen ECU's was that they initially couldn't get insurance quotes at all.... the quotes they finally got were very high. There are some Mugen S2000 daily drivers in the US/Japan - no problems reported so far, but the cooling systems have been uprated. (Which is recommended for using the Mugen ECU.)

I'm a little suprised that TDi say they can modify the timing/fueling. The stock S2000 ECU isn't programmable. I know you can use a V-AFC to intercept the fueling and tune it. Though Superchips also claim to be able to chip the S2000.

The Mugen/Spoon ECU's are designed for JDM engines as well.. so I'm not sure how well they'll handle 98 octane fuel.

Some useful insurance news....
I spoke to Direct Line today re the possible modifications to a standard S2000. I have discussed what they categorise as a 'performance air filter' and 'performance exhaust'. I have also included the Mugen ECU (just in case I wish to add this). They reference this as a 'chip - engine management upgrade'. These modifications went to the underwriter with the proviso that the changes would not lead to more than gross 10% power increase (24hp). Bearing in mind the exhaust has approx 8hp (even the Mugen) and the HKS filter system 7-8hp with the Mugen having no benefit in top end, just smoothing the curve this sounded about right. The effect was a premium increase of

Maca, can you post contact details for TDi for me - I have an AEM EMS (part no. 30-1002) & Twin-Channel Wideband UEGO Controller (part no. 30-2300) that I need installing and setting up on my NSX, do you reckon they are the guys to do it for me?

p.s. happy S2KI anniversary to you

japanese cars tend to be overfuelled to keep cylinder and head temperatures down so there is room to get more power out of an s2000 by leaning the mixture out. however, this may well be at the expense of longevity and without a proper, fully programmable ecu i wouldn't want to try it. you could fit an air fuel controller but does this give you sufficent points in the map to fuel throughout the rev/throttle position range? if it just adds or subtracts fuel at a given point in the rev range i would say that this is very dangerous.

This is a seriously old thread Darren! Maca ended up with an amazing number of mods to his car but sold it to another board member some time ago and isn't active on the forum these days.

TDi details here (clicky)

Brian,

I know of a UK tuner who has been putting MOTEC M800 on Type R civics for some racing series and has had great feedback from the drivers. (although i accept road and race are two very different beasts!)

I discussed the poss of doing same for S2 and they didnt feel there would be any significant problems and would hope to get the same improvements.

From the dealings ive had with the MOTEC units they are all very good, but does anyone know of any other S2 that have had this done?
