I know common wisdom on this board suggests that F1's are the only way to go (and actually, when I change mine I'll probably go for them) but I've got a set of Avon ZZ 1's on the back...not fabulous in the wet (I've nothing to compare them to!) but I've found that contrary to some s2k reviewers they don't let the car just 'snap out' that they give me good feedback/warning on oversteer....

It'll be F1's next tho'....

Be aware that is now the new F1 tread out. They have been running adverts on TV with a Z3.

Suppose it means three things:

1) you be able to pick up the old F1's nice and cheap if you shop about a bit.

2) New F1, by definition, should be better, but then the S03 wasn't met with quite this attitude by the s2ki community.

3) Potentially stepping into unknown territory as no-one has tried the new F1.....

I currently have the old F1s on all 4 and wouldn't hesitate with changing to the new tread - i have been very pleased with the originals...

Just looking at your original post Guy, and no one has answered the above.

Crucial that if you go down the F1 route you don't get 225s on the rear. I can't be bothered to go look what mine are......but i believe the correct size in F1s is 245/45 (rear) & 205/55 (front).

Guys,

sorry to reveal my ignorance in public again but can someone give me a quick 'idiots guide to tyres'...

Q1. 245/45...I know this has something to do with thw width/profile of the tyre but what - specifically - is each number referring to...

Q2. the standard S2k rears are 225's - why would you up that to 245's for Eagle F1's/other tyre makes?

Q3. I vaguely undersand the distinctions between grip and handling....which tyre combo's give the best balance of the two - wet and dry....

sorry again - stupid Q's to those who are real car enthusiast....I just want to take as much care with my car as poss...

cheers

cjn

Have a look at this thread: Tyres - 225 or 245

This is a really good discussion with all the board's technical heavy hitters chiming in!

Cheers

Hi GS Welcome to the board!

Have you been running the original spec Bridgestone S02s? If you like them then they are a great choice (IMO) but be sure to get the 'specific fitment' SO2 JZ tyre - a lot of dealers fit non OEM S02 Pole Position that are a very different kettle of fish. A vital point to note is that when replacing the rears with anything other than OEM rubber to buy 245/45 ZR16 tyres as the original tyres have a wider contact patch than their 225 description implies, this is well discussed and those who have accidentally fitted none OEM 225s have rued their choice!

Hope This Helps, the wheel and tyre forum on the board has a great Note thread on this too.

Tif
