Default Tyres on new car

Done nearly 6000 and thought I better check my tyres as my other car use to get changed every 7000 or so. Got 5-6mm on them which I wasn't expecting.

All the guys in my workshop have said that the first set of tyres seem to last longer than any other set - has anyone else found this and if so, why?

You spent 20% of time running it in.
Its Autumn so less heat and less wear.
Its new so you dont drive it as hard.

Speaking of which, I best order a set of 4 in! Getting close to the lowest I want to run them, its the first set, coming up to 7k miles including an airfield day.

I've always felt that replacement tyres last about half as long as the originals, several mates are of the same opinion so there may be something in it, could it be that as the car ages all the bushes etc wear so tyre wear increases.?

Everyone I've discussed it with has said the same thing. I'm just interested in the reason why but no one seems to be able to answer. Workshop Manager just shrugged his shoulders and said 'they just do'

There is no big technical reason.
It's down to human performance

I've only just changed mine and they weren't too bad only 25K but I guess thats a good mileage on these tyres.

Vehicle manufacturers get given the 1st quality of tyres from tyre manufacturers, which are a guaranteed specification on which they've done all their development for ride and handling.

When you buy replacements, they are the 2nd or 3rd quality, which although they're mainly the same are never as good, due to imperfections and differences in the compounds, moulds. etc.

They therefore don't last as long.
