Default Tyre wear

Hi, I have the Bridgestone Potenza tyres on my 1999 S2000.

Yesterday I had my car serviced and they advised me that the tyres will all need replacing soon. They have done less than 9000 miles and I don't push the car (that much!), it hasn't been tracked. I expected to have got a few more miles from them - am I being too ambitious?

Before I spend loads of money again on another new set - does anyone out there have any recommendations

Oh dear, another tyre thread .

Bridgestones is what you need the car punishes non bridgestone tyres.

to do 9k on the rears is fine, 9k on the front is fairly poor. Are you absolutely sure your tyres need changed? If so are you absolutely sure your fronts have only done 9k??

If it's correct then you need a Geo to stop the tyres wearing so badly which is also expensive

My S02 fronts only did 9k on the fronts as the inside edge wears away so quickly.

It's usually a good idea to get the front tyres swapped from one side to the other when you replace the rears.

9k is good for rear S02s.

I had 9k out of mine and about 14k out of my last set of F1 rears.

If you have S02s, do not swap the fronts over as they are directional. If you have RE050s then it's fine as they are asymmetric.

9000 miles is about right I think if you are driving the car with some gusto.

Apologies to those bored with tyre threads, but I thought this would be the best place to ask the question and I didn't have time to trawl through all the previous threads to see if this topic had already been thrashed to death.

I can't move the tyres around as they are directional, and they have all done just under 9k as I replaced them all in one go. All tyres have worn equally no difference between rears and the front - which did surprise me. As I said, I don't drive the car manically, I don't tend to leave tyre marks on the road as I pull away etc.

The previous owner had a mixture of tyres, Bridgestone on the back, Pirelli on the front - I suspect it was down to cost and only replacing two at a time.

So it looks like I will have to stick with the Bridgestone (on my 1984 CRX I got 30k miles out of my Bridgestones - I know the car is much lighter and a different drive - but I guess it's because of that I had mush higher expectations!)

toyo t1r is the way to go. pumped up to 36psi.

True if you're just swapping the wheels over. However, I meant take the tyres off the wheels and swap them over. Which is fine and will cost you about

Rotation direction does not matter in this case!

When you swap over, the tyre will still be pointing in the same direction but the inside will now be outside and vice versa!

I don't believe that you can swap over the RE050 as they are asymetric! The tyre is marked 'inside' and 'outside', so when you swap them, the inside will still be inside and the outside will still be outside!

Russell, they have a forward and backwards as well as an inside and outside. The RE050s do not.

If you mean they have a forward directional arrow AND inside/outside markings then you would have to buy a specific left and a specific right tyre! I'm sure this is not the case

Is the RE050a different? I'm sure it is asymetric i.e. has an inside and outside but not a rotation arrow.
