Default Tyre choice

I'm totally confused with what is on offer, will need new tyres soon so just wanted a heads up on what they should be swapped out for.

Currently running S02's which have been good, though they can be very slippery when wet and cold but I would suggest all tyres are similar in that environment.

2001 with stock 16's.

F1's, S02's, anything else you would suggest?

Whats this about people opting for 245 over 225?? Slap me with a wet fish but surely I cant put 245's on a wheel designed for a 225? whats the benefit if I can?

From what I can gather, the design of the S02 was that the contact area of the rear tyre was akin to that of a 235. Obviously, you wouldn't want to drop down so the next reasonable way to go was the next up to 245/45 for any other design and brand.

As far as I know they fit just fine on the 16" rim.

I have Toyo T1S (245 at the rear).

Outright grip in the dry is not as good as the S02's if you are really hammering it but for how I drive they are more than enough.

In the wet they are much more confidence inspiring and feel a bit more planted that the S02's. I think they may have discontinued the T1S but the T1R which replaces it is supposed to be better.

Some have said they wear quicker but I have not really found that.

I have Bridgestone S'03 on all 4 corners and they are very good in the wet and damp conditions.

I have 225 at the rear at the moment (as the car came from a Honda Dealer with a brand new set and I thought it a shame to replace them before they wore out) However I will be replacing them with 245 when they wear out.

There are lots of threads about the correct tyre size, but bascially the OEM Bridgestone "225" are wider than a typical 225 so it is best to stick with OEM tyres or fit 245 at the rear.

"Standard fit tyres on the S2000 are Bridgestone ES02JZ. Bridgestone developed these tyres specifically for the S2000 and Honda recommend that only these tyres be used on the car. ES02JZs are not the same as other Bridgestone S02 tyres"[I] https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=181443

I spoke to Bridgestone techinal about the size issue when I bought the car and they were not worried about the 225 size as they said I would probably not be able to tell difference but strongly advised not to mix tyre types i.e.. SO2 front S03 or vica-versa.

This is fine in theory but it means you have to replace all 4!

Personally I would go for some black ones, make sure they are round, and pay particular attention to where it touches the road, that is where they usually go flat !!

Alternatively just buy some ES02JZ !!
I'm sure Honda did their work when deciding to spec the tyres, rather than just saying oh we like Bridgstone so what have you got lots of that we can put on the car.

Tyres are about safety, can't see tham skimping on that !!
Other parts of the car may not be the best they can get, but tyres ?!?

I'd love to agree with you Simon but apart from getting them imported just for me, which would be mucho expensive, I have to look at other brands.

Personally, I'm actually thinking about this for when these Michelins go just so I can see what the difference is.

Hey, who's coming out to Dubai soon?
