Trying to buy a car - police advice please.
#11
I learned the hard way about buying a car once - nothing too serious but it was a bit of a lemon - because I rushed into a deal and I thought it was 'just what I wanted'.
The hard truth is that I could have waited, and found probably the exact same car elsewhere which had probably been better looked after etc. etc.
So, from my experience, there will be plenty more cars out there identical to the one you have looked at, Chesh, so I would walk away swiftly and just wait for the next one to come along. Plenty more fish in the sea.

All very cool advice
Partic the walk away bits. I will wait to see what happens Tuesday then if I get a reasonable story, I will do an HPI myself, then.
What I don`t want is to spend 9k now, then when I come to sell in a few years, have all of this 'history' again. Def don't want that.
After all, a Golf is a Golf, so I`ll keep looking. I wanted leather you see with a TDI engine, thats quite a hard mix to find.
Anyone have any tips on V6 4motions? I see quite a few of them about, fully loaded, not sure how practical a 2.8litre Golf is though.

If you want any info on golfs, try www.edition38.com and www.golfgti.co.uk both really good sites with loads of helpful people, there's different parts of the forum for different cars so just go to the mk4 part and post away!!

V6 4 Mo are alcoholics, but you get the leather more readily on them....
the www.ukmkivs.net forum has some for sale and plenty of info on all Golfs.

Any stolen info on HPI's, Experian's or the AA's vehicle database's comes directly from the PNC daily. There are times when the VRM's come though wrong so their could be a mistake. If the dealer has completed a car check then they are covered by a level of indemnity (insurance) - up to

Perhaps he showed CC his helmet.
I have to say, walk away. Always do your own HPi check (I am such an untrusting bastard!)
That car ain't gonna move, so it may be available once the query is resolved. Unless, some jerk will have bought it meantime.
