Default Transmission Noise - Getting really worried now!

Hello all. Sorry if this has been discussed already. Had a quick look around the search but havent got a lot of time on the net (am at work) and this issue is really worrying me.

Last night I was driving with the radio off and as I was slowing down under engine braking (2nd gear, about 2000rpm) I noticed a grinding, whirring type noise coming from the gearbox area. On the way to work this morning I tired looking for the noise again and it seemed to be there in lower gears as I tip in and out of the throttle at low rpm.

I then parked up, put the car in neutral and slowly ramped up the rpm. At about 2500rpm I got the noise in neutral. It seemed to be coming from the transmission area. I then pressed the clutch pedal in and the noise went away, when I released it the nosie came back. I repeated at 5000rpm but there was no noise.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I am now really worried my g/box is toast. Car is a 2000MY, 52000, standard, full dealer history.

Sounds like the input shaft bearing on the gearbox to me.
Yes, it will be expensive and time consuming...

Is it a common issue with the S2000? I wouldnt expect gearbox input shaft bearings to go at 53k miles. Car hasnt had a hard life, box oil always changed on time etc etc

Early car clutch buzz?

If it is a geabox a breakers for a full replacement will probably be the cheapest option

I dont think its clutch buzz. I do have the clutch buzz and have done since I got the car but this seems different. Seems to be in lower gears (including neutral) where as the buzz from what I have seen and heard is usually 3rd and 4th gear, around 4000rpm. That said I did notice my clutch buzz had got worse recently and now this has started. Perhaps it is releated. Shame the clutch is so stupidly expensive to source and fit from Honda otherwise I would get that done and see where it left me

My 2000, er, 2000, is generally very quiet and well behaved, but when I give her the beans, she sometimes starts making a pretty loud buzzing noise when I come off the gas. This doesn't happen that often, but always after I have been running her hard. The noise goes when I touch the accelerator but comes back 'off-load'.

No other adverse effects and it goes completely when she has cooled down a bit.

I always put this down to fabled early clutch buzz but am disconcerted by talk of gearbox bearings. Someone reassure me...!?!

Nope, just bad luck I'm afraid.

Or someone has dumped some 'special' oil in there...
