IMO that is all crap from racing tyres that people are running. I had exactly the same as your pic. Sure, a concrete surface will be abrasive but I really don't think that is your tyre. Really. I had the exact same thing at Bedford and other rubber will fall off as you drive some more.

S02's seem to have a soft outer layer, which gradually becomes harder as they wear down.
You will kill the tyres, but SFW? It's how such a heavy car can give the Caterfields a hard time.
Do an airfield day (or 1/2 day!) with one of the foregoing organisers. Go for an 'open pit lane' policy, so you may go in & out as you see fit.
You don't have to be Schumacher - they're deliberately uncompetitive, for insurance reasons. You will find some like-minded guys to 'tag along with'. Just get away from the occasional arsehole by coming in for a while.
Don't spend a fortune beforehand. The car is fine as it is and you may find you don't like track days. Yeah right!

Mate I believe you. Seriously, not suggesting that it didn't happen. Stop driving so fast.
i will be very interested to see how the re40's perform on my new car. Last time i did beford my fronts were pretty worn and the track was wet so i had understeer 'issues'. this time i'll have different tyres with less than 1k miles on them (and a different car with less than 1k miles on it )

There's Elvington in Yorkshire - an airfield site on an old bomber base. I think BookaTrack do sessions there. Not local to you, but a lot closer than most others!

[QUOTE=Subaru2000,Apr 19 2006, 03:25 PM] Agree with Mark, go there for the first time, lots of run off and you'll really be able to push the car safely. Cost me about

I would recommend you wear the tyres down a bit too before the big day. The tread on new tyres in not a good thing for a trackday as the blocks generate too much heat and wear prematurely. I will be getting my fronts changed at the end of the day because the inner edges are already worn on mine.
