Default Track Day Helmet

Right, I'm now booked on two track days in the next month or so, so have decided to buy a helmet.

I need to get one before Saturday but have no idea where to get one here in Bristol. Any recommendations?

JUst make sure you get a good quality one with all the right certification. I chose a competition one and got a deal around xmas for about 1/3 normal price

Good point although you only need a competition certification if you compete! I think the normal BS gumph is ok for trackdays.

In all the trackdays I've done not once has anyone checked my helmet!

As it happens I wear an expenisve Aria as I ride a bike, but personally for trackdays I question the need for a helmet in modern car, I think it's more to satisy the liability insurance than anything else - and you could argue they will exacerbate whiplash injuries.

I'd go to your local bike shop and choose the one that is within your budget and fits the best - fit is all important in a crash helmet, and when new it should feel pretty tight about the cheeks as the lining will give a bit over time paricularly on cheaper helmets. Also give it a tug when done up from the rear of the helmet up. I have been able to pull some off my head even done up! You will gather from this that trying it on is vital and thus mail order is a absolute no-no!

HTH

Thanks for the advice guys.

I think I'll aim for the Jeb's 903R, as shown here.

Will go down tomorrow and take a look.

I also think as a general rule it would make visibility better! However you also need to consider such beasties as caterhams and also cars with roll cages - helmets very good idea!

I've been looking for a decent F1 replica helmet/overalls I could wear to track days and when I go karting. Anyone know where to find them besides ebay rip-off merchants?
