Torn Roof
#11
The tear is caused by the tension of the hood at that point rubbing it against the piece of metal underneath which you can see poking out on the left in your picture.
My hood went in exactly the same place, and it will continue to tear now it has started.
Very difficult to get behind that section without dismantling, when I had my new hood fitted under warranty I just managed to get my hand in to stick a piece of velcro - the soft part, on top of that metal thing to cushion it.

You can get a hole new hood from the states off ebay for about 280, has anyone tried one? I should ask in the usa forum! Also I noticed you come from the north west? Who did you get to fit your hood last time?

i sent the sellers on ebay a question asking about the quality and never got a reply...
i worked out including delivery vat and import duties the hood would weigh in around 340 pounds.
add 200 pounds labour to fit it and your up to 540...
monsoon can supply a much better glass hood for another 700.
i went for monsoon. for the sake of 160 quid your getting a better hood with glass, a warranty and a guaranteed fit!
ive also had those tears, including tears above the passanger shoulder and driver side.. also my plastic rear window is knackered!
its very noisy in my car on the motorways... im looking fwd to my new hood!

I think The Hood Guys would be interested in doing a group buy. See their prices on S2KUK discount section.

OK everyone thanks for your input, it seems the only real solution is a new roof, I will make efforts to see the guys who replaced my roof and see if I can't get them to do it under warranty, I have no idea how long the warranty on a roof should be but surely they can't argue with less than 2 years and its ripped already ? ... surely ?
Thanks for all your input.

I have this issue too, it's such a pain.
Anyway I took it to a specialist and he said the design on the S2000 hood is rubbish (but said it was a nice car ) and he can do a full repair for £250 which includes;
A reinforced patch on both sides where the weak spots are
Some reinforcement above the window where the seam is (he knew all the weak spots)
Finally a patch on the inside where the frame rubs the hood.
It's a full days work so not bad for £250. His lockup was full of convertible Porches too that were having work done, it looked like a professional setup

Or do it yourself with a bit of old roof material obtained for 5 beer tokens.
