Torn Roof
Hi,
I just recently noticed this tear in my roof, it was replaced less than 2 years ago for brand new ... however as you can see from the image this small tear has appeared, simply ... is there anything I can do to repair it or do you think it will not get any worse?
Any ideas as to what caused it to tear also?
Thanks for any help

I'd see if you can access the back of it and reinforce the tear to stop it going anywhere. You might even manage to pull the two halves back together to a certain extent.

I went to see Gary at The Hood Guys in Birmingham, as I have the same problem, who said this is a weak spot on the hood. Mainly caused by the frame design. He advised that a mohair hood is more resilient to this issue. I'll starting to save up !!

I have this issue too, it's such a pain.
Anyway I took it to a specialist and he said the design on the S2000 hood is rubbish (but said it was a nice car ) and he can do a full repair for £250 which includes;
A reinforced patch on both sides where the weak spots are
Some reinforcement above the window where the seam is (he knew all the weak spots)
Finally a patch on the inside where the frame rubs the hood.
It's a full days work so not bad for £250. His lockup was full of convertible Porches too that were having work done, it looked like a professional setup

A full day's work to apply a few patches? Seems a little OTT to me, but I'm prepared to be proven wrong I personally think that the only long term way to 'solve' your problem is a new hood
peters2000 - Where did you learn that OEM hoods are 'tougher' than 'copies'...a breakers yard/eBay seller?

A lot of the work is taking it off the frame he said. Either way a full days work I'd expect it to be more than £250. I'll let you know when I get it done but it won't be until nearer summer.
Edit: if you consider 2 years 'long term' then yes a new hood is ok but personally I wouldn't want to pay £600 for a new hood + fitting every couple of years.
