Yeah, I got that bit. But accounting for seconds lost due to a wet track the times are almost identical. Or are the hot hatch times in the wet as well?
Obviously if I'm driving the times will be much quicker, but still...

I've just swapped to an S from an 05 civic r, granted this was only 3 weeks ago so I'm still finding my feet, but...

First impressions are that the civic when pushed, is more eager (especially between 2k and 4k rpm) and more stable on the limit.

The 0-60 time is slightly slower than the S at 6.4 but can you tell? No way. I don't believe any normal driver with a smattering of mechanical sympathy, no matter how small, will ever achieve the quoted times.

As far as track times go, I've no real world times but I would be very surprised if there was much in it.

Would I go back to a civic? Absolutely not. The S is more engaging, more entertaining and above all way more fun, especially with the roof down.

[QUOTE=GrittyShaker,May 23 2007, 01:56 AM] So; why is there such a close lap time between the hot hatches and the S? Is it down to driver ability? I haven't a clue, help!

I think some get into thinking the S is a supercar! Its not a powerful car by any means.

On a longer track its strengths would show...

Where's that Best Motoring clip where the S is all over the M3 and leaves the Boxter for dead?

The X frame is very heavy, I think the early S2000 was 1240kg, and then got heavier.

I think that's only 100kg lighter than a Focus ST (with 5 doors and a proper roof, and with similar BHP a massive torque advantage ~150lbft vs ~230lbft).

At the end of the day it's a 2.0 NA in a heavy chassis, with RWD transmittion losses.
What is it at the beginning of the day?

Thanks for the explanations. I was always under the impression that, despite the similar performance figures, the S would outdo the hatches due to better cornering etc.

I'm disappointed now, might have to supercharge.

I'd like to see that.

There's a reason for that X frame...as many who ended up in some hedge would confirm....
