Default Tonneau Cover "MUST" be used according to Honda

Car goes in for its first service today so I decide to get a few things looked at while its in. One of the things being the roof frame (not the catch) behind the drivers side rattles and squeks when the roof is folded down. Dealer has just rang me and asked if I have a tonneau cover. I advise yes which I have used about twice. Dealer replies "ah well that is the problem" and says he has just come off the phone with Honda who say the tonneau cover "must" be used each time the roof is folded. I advise this is ridiculous and what is the point of having an electric roof if I have to get out and remove the tonneau cover each time I want to raise the roof.
Dealer offers to phone Honda again on Monday.
I know for a fact that hardly anyone uses the tonneau cover on this board. I have only used it when I have been going on a long journey and the weather looks like it will be nice for the whole jopurney and simply to stop the inside of the roof getting full of dust.
Anyone else's roof frame rattle when not using the tonneau cover. Please post so I have confirmation from other S2000 drivers to take back to the dealers if I get no joy next week.
Thanks in advance

No rattles and no tonneau Never even tried to use it, the instructions were enough to put me off!

mine never rattles when the hood is down and it has only ever had the tonneau on once.

dealer spinning you a line or has got through to the technical girls at honda who aren't actually technical.

My dealer explicitly said "Don't bother" when I asked how much a tonneau cover would be (bought a second hand S without one).

So is the theory that you won't be able to hear the roof rattling under the tonneau cover?

Could you not just turn the radio up instead??

Yep - the dealer is talking rubbish , the tonneau cover is aesthetical for warm weather climates.

If the roof rattles then something is amiss/broken/loose.

Funnily enough my tonneau cover is still underneath my bed as I sold the car without putting it back in the boot! Doh! Anyone want it?
