Default Tires

A while back i posted on here asking for opinions on tire choise, I had narrowed it down to Toyo and was looking at the R888 or the T1r
i had just obtained a set of 17" Rota boost's with Yoko A048's on that were border line worn and i needed a new set. The change from 16" T1R to 17" AO48 was very noticable the grip was very very good but the car felt twitchy and tramlined and squirmed on any slight road imperfection, this could have been due to the tires being worn to another cars suspension geo so dont go writing them off. I was tempted to go for the R888 but put off with the comments on Toyo's web site about them not being able to cope with standing water and i dont have another car to use if its raining
to cut a long story short i went for the Yokohama Advan Sport, I know its not a Toyo but i have always liked Yokahoma tyres and wanted something other than T1R.
1st impression is they are a good tyre not as noisy as the AO48 and no tramlining, i feel they have more grip than the T1R but im comparing 16" to 17" tires so not sure if its valid, i have a test roundabout where the surface is a little rough and used to upset the T1R's and drift the back end slightly the Advans just grip no slide at all, they are rated as a summer tire and not recomended for use below 2 degree so my plan is to run the Advan in summer and put the 16" T1R's on for winter.
If i had another set of 17" wheels and did more track days i would put the AO48 on for track.

I have been using AVS Sports for some time now and had been planning to use these as a summer tyre but I was surprised at how well they gripped in the cold and wet conditions that I ended up using them all year round.

Sadly, they are no longer made in suitable sizes

A048s are trackday tyres. I can't understand why you're even bothering to compare. Of course they have more grip in the dry, and of course they'll be less pleasent to drive on day to day.

Oh and the word is: tyre.

R888s are trackday tyres too, and you did seem to be considering them as alternatives to the Advan Sports, which aren't. Dembo's right! (And he can spell )
