So went via the tire place in town and ordered 2 Bridgestone S02's at

We customarily spell it "tyre" on this side of the Atlantic!
It's been quite a while since I had to order S02s, but aren't the rears more expensive than the fronts, so how come they quoted you the same price for all four tyres....?

No apology required - just yanking your chain
I also just noticed you did actually say you had ordered 2 S02s. In skim-reading worthy of Budgie himself, I had only noticed the bit about price each and assumed it referred to all 4

Touch wood, I've only had one puncture in recent years. The pisser was that it was to an almost-new tyre and it was too near to the sidewall to be repaired

Are the insides of your fronts OK for wear? Usually if the rears are gone, it's almost time to swap the fronts side to side or replace altogether as the insides will be worn out.

nowp fronts look to have about 8mm left on them with no feathering/wear to them. think they were put on towards end of last year.
taken each wheel off 1 night at a time, cleaned them, de tared them, polished them then painted the calipers silver. finished last night doing them. moving onto the soft top tonight cleaning that. then polishing and waxing the car tomorrow day time.
