Default Ticking sound

I have searched the threads and I'm not sure if my TCT needs replacing or not

Having seen some youtube videos where it sounds like a chainsaw, mine is nowhere near that level, but there is definitely a slight ticking sound, especially when you lift the bonnet up

I also have a whining sound that follows the revs

Should there be any ticking at all from the engine as standard? It's done 34k and is a 2004 model

Going to be fun finding out what the whining noise is. From reading the forums I think I've seen the causes being TCT, water pump, Air con, Idler, Tensioner..... you get the idea!

Any help is much appreciated

A ticking noise seems to be about the norm for these engines. I've always had a ticking noise from mine. Some people have said injectors, valve clearances or tct but I've done what I can tinkering wise. Think it's something you have to accept with these. Whining could be drive train related? No sound deadening means you hear all sorts that you otherwise wouldn't!

Does it sound like this: TCT

TCT will exhibit that sound when the car is warm and idle, from a cold start you won't hear it. If you rev above 2k-2.5k the sound will disappear but will return when the car returns to idle 800-1k.

Im on my phone and it doesnt seem to like the link. However I revved the car from the engine bay and the ticking is consistent throughtout the rev range but it isnt huge and I csn barely hear it from the cabin.

I know chains aren't quiet. I will just keep my eye on it

getting the exhaust mod done saturday. Thrn I will do the clutxh fork fix then try and find this annoying whining sound!

It's probably your injectors, which is normal.my sister said the same at the weekend, when I checked it out it was the injectors.
