Throttle sticking on
Hi all,
I am hoping somebody may be able to help...
Over the last couple of days, I've noticed that if I lightly acclerate and then let off, the throttle sticks and and the revs don't drop. If i put the car in neutral it will continue to rev, I found that if i 'jab' the accelerator pedal the revs then drop back to normal.
When the issue occurs, the pedal itself has returned to the usual position. So the pedal is not getting cuaght anywhere.
I also noticed the the issue doesn't seem to occur higher up the rev range, so for example if I accelerate to 5000rpm and let off, the revs drop as expected.
The first thing I checked was that the mat wasn't getting caught behind the accelerator pedal, everything seems fine there so I have ruled that out.
The next most likely thing seems to be the throttle cable getting caught somewhere, could anybody advise where this may be occuring so I can check?
I also wondered if there was some sort of spring that may be on its way out? The reason I say this is because if the throttle is lightly applied there doesnt seem to be enough 'spring power' to get it back! If the throttle is depressed further and released it works as it should.
(I'm not entirley sure how it works so the spring part is a wild guess!)
Anyway, If anybody has any advice that would be most helpful.

Clean the intake out and butterfly at the opening Oh and you might want some WD40 on the throttle linkage on the outside of the throttle body.

Clean it & apply lithiun grease to the spring & cable holder.
Re-tension the cable whilst you're at it. A bit of lithium washed into the cable sheath with a squirt of WD 40 won't go amiss.

I'm inclined to think the cable/linkage rather than the butterfly.
Reason being if it's the butterfly I'd be expecting the OP to be complaining about it being sticky when opening.
When the circumference of the butterfly is closest to the throat (i.e. shut) it has quite a lot of leverage against the cable. Once it's open there isn't much at all. That means build up tends to affect opening more noticably than closing. That said it isn't necissarily 100% true and considering cleaning out the throttlebody is a 5 minute job its unlikely to do any harm giving it a shot.
