Default Thinking of buying a Prelude

The search for Amanda's new car has started! We had originally been looking at getting an Integra, but as I've had some experience of DC2s before, I knew it would be a fair bet that Amanda might find it a bit harsh and noisy for everyday use. So we need to drive one of those at some point.

However, on Saturday we spotted a MY2000 Prelude on a forecourt and went to have a look. It was an auto 2.0l and pretty ropey, but the drive (and engine note!) was good enough to convince me that it would be a good idea to start looking at manual 2.2VTis. These seem to be going for stupid prices these days. For example there are two low mileage MY2000/2001 cars very local to me that are on the autotrader for under

surely VTEC and automatic gearboxes don't go well together!

The 2.0 isn't a vtec unit, so i can't comment.

There are so few cars that Amanda's interested in. It has to be interesting, fairly rare and have the ability to beat most cars in a straight line, all for around

I agree the the Prelude is a real sleeper.

The more practical alternative for that price would be a late Civic Vti/Jordan. Fantastic handling, good performance and slightly more humane than slamming the mutts in the boot!

Nice idea on the Civic, unfortunately hatches are out, she wants something more interesting.

I don't mind selling the Accord Coupe, we could really do with a decently sized estate car anyway, especially since it looks like I might start gigging again in the new year and I have a Trace Elliot bass stack to carry about I got offered

212 BHp some of the very latest Motegi ones had, IIRC. Thats the one I'd look out for....High insurance group however?(17 / 18?)

I know civics have been ruled out, but the manic version of the Aerodeck had 180+ BHP and used a version of the ITR engine....
