B B: I'm down in deepest darkest Cornwall.

I do love the hi-reving FTO, can't beat the sound at high revs. I have a GR Manual so I'm sure an S2K should feel a fair bit quicker?

I just bought an S2000. It should be with me before this time next week.

All I can say is.

1/ Make a list of all the alternatives.... ( even ones you wouldn't have immediately consider.. oddly enough the S2000 wasn't on my initial hit-list )
2/ Take a test drive in all of them
3/ And whatever makes you smile the most.......

Best

I owned an Evo VI RSX before my DC2 then the S2000 and three Subaru's before that, obvious benefit is the abilty to increase bhp/torque with little outlay, my Evo was running 360bhp plus with an outlay of approx 1k. Running the Evo was far more than I ever imagined, and I had to sell it as I wanted to upsize on the house. I got approx 100 miles to a tank, the clutch had to be replaced, I had the gearbox rebuilt, as a few have the incorrect pre load on the input shaft bearing. I spent a good few grand in a short space of time, and did not have a penny to even put fuel in it. The Evo was aggresive, and I could only drive it flat out or nothing, as on boost it was soooo addictive, I also got pulled and lost the police a couple of times without knowing. Miss the Evo and loved it, but I had to put money else where, I've only owned the S a month, but it's not about all and out power, more fun, and honing your driving skills, I really enjoy it, and have already fitted a CAI/Decat/Lowered springs, but the car its self is affordable, and the insurance is cheaper. Also the forrum is very useful, and there does not seem to be usual twits on here The only thing that would bother me, in winter I live in the sticks, and Rwd won't be fun, so I have a 1.4 50bhp diesel Ax, so the S will be garaged in the darkest winter months.
V-Tec is addictive, go and have a try
(excuse typos etc, I'm hungover oww)

I've owned the car for nearly 2 years now. At times it's been my daily driver, including in the winter months and now it's enjoying a bit more of a pampered existence.

I was specifically looking for a roadster (lost youth and all that) that would remind me of my days of TR6 ownership and recapture the fun. I have not modded that car as I feel the power is adequate as stock and it was not high on my list of concerns. I'm still toying with the idea of a strut brace but that's all.

Cars I considered included Porsche Boxter and Audi TT. Both of these were rejected on the simple grounds that the driving experience was too sterile. Too much electronics between me and how the car behaved.

The S2000 is very fast once you learn how to use it and uderstand VTEC. I can't concieve of needing more power unless you plan to complete with the car. It is pretty raw by modern standards and it will bite you if you don't concentrate and respect the road conditions. A driving course with a pro is the best performance mod you can invest in with this car.

There's loads of info on here most of it sensible and some of it utter bollocks as you might expect. I'll leave you to sift through that.

The car does need good quality grippy (read softer) tyres to make it work properly. Again there is a lot written about the advantages of make a over make b and tread pattern x over tread pattern y. Happy sifting with all this as well. Most of what is written about wet grip has a basis in fact. You've got over 200bhp going through the rear wheels. Like all RWD cars with LSD the car can step out of line on a wet road for no apparent reason. There always is a reason and it's almost inevitable that the nut behind the wheel is the cause. (I can say that safe in the knowledge that in my youth my TR did an upprovoked 360 spin while pulling away from the traffic lights.) You need to read the road with these cars and drive accordingly.

Hope that helps

Cheers for all the reply guy's. Have just got back from a week in france so haven't posted.

I'm hoping to spend around 10k but could probably stretch it up a bit more if needed. Am I likely to get anything half decent for this money. I see there are quite a lot on autotrader around this price.

Also with mileage, I see a few cars around this price range have 80-90k mileage. Is this likely to be a problem? Or will the S2K be fine well into the 100k's?

If your on a budget looking for a high milleage s2000, then make sure the S has been serviced properly, its paramount to the car aging/running well.

Its inevitable as cars age things go round with them, just check bushes, there no ecu lights on and obvious things. look at the Faq.

my s has just ticked over to 102k and its fine, but i did shit loads of miles travelling when i first got it.

one other thing you mentioned an evo, if your after straight line pure blistering acceleration then the s isnt for you, but if you want a realiable, relatively rare and fast, nice looking roaster get the s2000.

best of luck.
