Air consumption / demand is much lower low at those revs - the difference should be more higher up when the lifters kick in. I can understand the response being better though - esp if there is less of a pressure drop.

Yes, exactly the response is noticeable, I cannot quantify it, I can't say that I get 12BHP but I can say its a very noticeable performance / response improvement.

OK I am off to the gym, interesting though this topic is ... and it is interesting

See you in a bit

Just to add after reading your comment MB I would say there is no performance increase in VTEC whatsoever, it is exactly the same as stock just sounds better, it is the pre-VTEC where the hit happens.

WTF I don't go for any such business, I just drive the fecker.
So how can you quantify the power increase, rather than just a feel increase?

That has reminded me - Ian's car is very noticably faster than any NA S I have been in. It does have my J's manifold on it though

It really pulls well.
It's just the driver mate

A filter with offering a lower DP will show more of a performance effect at higher RPM, where the engine wants to draw more air / or more of a vacuum.

Response and power are different things.

Possibly but i've not been in yours

I do think the S is sensitive to mods though, and the J's stuff is king for me.

I have constantly been fiddling about and thought about intakes.

I used to own an AEM v2 then i sold it, a little birdy told me that the AEM doesnt yeild that much on the dyno , in fact it was me who had it on a dyno over a year ago but its a little different on a dyno than driving at speed on the road so you might not notice it that much on a dyno.

I will say for sure the AEM made a small difference to the throttle response and the sound was delightful.

IMO the stock intake is very very good, but it does have its problem:

It doesnt bring the air in from the best area, it should be lower down the front grill. Its all made out of black plastic and absorbs the heat in the engine bay. The radiator piping gets red hot at the little snorkle bit draws the air in.

But its hard to improve on, i think the AEM is slightly better. PWJDM have a very interesting yet expensive product similar to the gruppe M.

I have almost finished insulating the box and gone with a gutted snorkle and gutted airbox. I have removed the top and bottom bits from the snorkle also added rubber seals becuase theres a horrible bottleneck. I also have a pipe that draws air from the passenger side fender. Obviously cost was a factor for honda too.

Unfortunatly whilst covering the snorkle my german shepperd pup chewed the hell out of it and im lookin to repair it .
