Default Is there a plate problem?

Has anyone had a problem with an S200O XX number plate on their car? What I mean by that, is, has anybody been bothered by the Police about having the spacing wrong.

I just bought a new plate and tried to get the spacing as S200O, but a couple of places wont do it for legal reasons.

Has anybody been done by the feds yet for this?

I remember someone got done in Wales, where the local dibble were having a periodic crack-down on naughty plates, and he happened to be unlucky enough to be passing through.

That said, I think that the vast majority of people who have S200O **/S200D **/S200C **/S200G **plates have not had any problems at all. I know I haven't in over a year and 20,000 miles of it being displayed.

As you say, for legal reasons, places like Hellfords won't space them other than in conformity with the law. There are online places who don't have the same scruples - www.gtgrafix.com did me proud with mine. Just be sure to make clear that you want "show plates".

You'll need a set of preoperly spaced plates for your MOT

I quite like mine spaced as S200 OXX, but I also liked Andy's S2000 AE. Decisions decisions

The 'received wisdom' on this is that so long as it is quite clear what the letters/numbers are, and they are in the proper sequence, the spacing is not a matter that unduly concerns the police. The important thing is that anyone (police/public) should be able to 'note and quote' the registration number so that the vehicle can be identified and traced - usually so that a fine can be issued for a much more heinous offence.

That means that plates which use a 'D', or a 'C' plus strategically placed fixing bolt,to simulate a '0', as in S200D XX, with related mis-spacing, will be looked on as an attempt to deceive and therefore a serious offence, whereas S200O XX is more likely to be ignored.

I think that Boy Wonder was 'done' for his plate a few weeks ago.

Got a warning letter through the post for mine, the police then 'claimed' within the letter that this had not interefered with their usual policing work...

So they sent it on their own time then....!
