Default Tempremental starting issue.

Sometimes the car will not start. It won't even turn over. It bump starts okay, and there's no pattern to the prob. It's done it in both the wet and dry conditions. For the first time today it decided to start after several presses of the button..... The ABS light always clicks off as if to start so I am assuming the ECU is regestering the button is pressed. Not sure how noisy the starter motor is on these cars but there is no audiable clunk as if the starter is even trying to turn.

I have a non-Honda dealer warranty on the car but the prob has to be diagnosed to be authorised, and typically the last time I took it down, it decided is would work okay.

I am currently guessing the starter solenoid is at fault - is there anything else likely to cause this prob.

TIA

Rog

I haven't checked it as such but the lights don't dim when the button is pushed, and earlier this afternoon, on the 3rd press it just fired up as normal - that wouldn't have happened if the battery was knackered.

does it go lcacka clacka clacka when you press the start button (the times it doesn't start)

It could also be a sticky starter motor

By claska clacka clacka I guess you mean the starter motor clicking - in which case no. The starter motor appears to be completely silent. I was trying to listen if I could hear the solenoid clicking but it then decided it would start!

It might be the very useful alarm/immobiliser?

It has a TOAD unit fitted - and I've since spoken to the fitter of the unit who does not believe the alarm to be at fault.

Its not a good idea to bump start a cat equiped car - if it doesn't catch straight away, you can dump unburnt fuel into the cat that will hasten its demise.
