The TCT Refurbishment Thread
#42
Ok, odd problem. Fitted it and it was fine, first 5 minute drive, fine. Started the car up after the gym, and what can I hear? Ah, that'll be the TCT. Erm...Let the car warm up a bit and drove home, still hear it. Confused.
Problem sorted.

Old oil (>3500 miles) will exacerbate the issue.
See my advice reference a new timing chain in my first post. I clearly remember blasting your TCT and being happy with the results, so doubt blasting another (which I have no time for) would make any difference.
If you have any other questions about the chain/age of oil etc, please find an existing thread that discusses your issue...there are a few out there.

Will change the oil asap. I have no doubt that your work/service is excellent. Just wanted some ideas from anyone. I'll trundle off to the other threads though.
Thanks again.

I've said before that I was experiencing the rattle for 10-20 seconds on tickover, but that was not long after I'd bought my car. It had Morris Oil 10w semi-synth in the sump. But one swift oil change later, it disappeared. It only surfaced again after just over half a litre of oil had been consumed of the Helix Ultra fully synth 5w 30, and requiring a top up. I could almost use the TCT guide rattle as a "time to top up" signal Soon as I top up to the H mark, the faintest of rattles disappears again.
So the right oil and oil level is key... many thanks to lofty for the advice after me to-ing and fro-ing about refurbing my TCT. It didn't need it, maybe not yet. The car just needed to right oil, and being a "drinker" it was critical the Morris oil was flushed out.
