I have had this in the past with some cars, on a few occasions it has a been something to do with air getting into the intake system, ie a split rubber pipe or crushed. Mind you these are all things you should check before pulling engine apart

Havoc seriously, it sounds very similar to my problem and was a faulty ECU connector according to the dealer and my second problem was the fuel inertia switch!
Definately worth a look!
ETA haven't read all post but have you tried injector cleaner????

Possible causes:-
- Injectors
- Coil(s)
- Valves / seats (but compression OK)
- MAP sensor
- IACV (? How to check ?)
- Leak in one of the hoses
- Cat converter problem
- Faulty sensor (e.g. lambda sensor...any others?)
- ECU gremlin

Injectors appear OK as per the diagnostics
Readings (AFR, Lambda, etc) all seem OK as per diagnostics
Car seems to be running fine bar the idle
Leakdown test shows all cylinders >90%
So...that eliminates a few things...and to be fair the EMS light hasn't reappeared for a few hundred miles...and it IS just the idle burbling away.
So I'm inclined to leave well alone unless the light comes back on or unless it gets worse...it's not WORTH chasing right now.
