I drive my S2k like I stole it, however I normally get between 170-200 miles from £30 which is about 35mpg-ish. 90% B road 10% Motorway.
The worst I have ever seen was when I picked up and drove it home when I bought it.
I never fill up more than £30 at a time, 1.) because im poor as hell and earn pittance and 2.) £30 is half a tank and that can last me 2 - 3 weeks.
As for the cars fuel bars going up and down mine always seem to go up 1 or 2 when the car is warm and been running about 15mins, and i can guarantee when I turn it off and leave it for and hour+ it will loose about 1 -2 bars. I find if I am really poor and worried about fuel, I park it facing down hill with a camber to the left, this seems to give the car an extra bar or two for some reason!

If I'm not mistaken; the S has a (nearly) 10 gallon fuel tank, meaning you can just take whatever mileage you got out of a fuel tank (presuming it's nearly flat out) and divide it by 10. I.e 320 miles to a full tank; 32 mpg.

Totally pointless discussion, the fuel gauge is just a float on a bit of bent wire feeding a variable resistor the power supply is an unregulated lump of lead and acid voltage running up to 14.5V not running down to 12.5V. No two cars are going to read the same, wire bent differently newer/older battery etc.
Park it on anything but dead flat every time and you will get a different reading every time.
Drive it till the light just comes on, fill it up see how much goes in take that reading from 50L (the actual capacity of the tank and not the filler pipe)and that's what you had in the tank when it started nagging do the maths with your MPG and that's how far you would get.
If you want to see the gauge at full all the time, then park on your roof.
And for Tango its 11 UK gallons.

I think the fascination with hearing the engine sounding like it needs a gear change then realising it wasn't even above 6k rpm got the better of me. That and many diversions around several roads back home.
