Default Tank reserve?

Boring thread, but kinda weird.

Down to the last fuel bar, fuel warning light on.

Got to shell and filled up to the brim - 42 litres!

Does that mean there is essentially an 8 litre reserve if you like after the light comes on? This seems like quite a lot to me.

I wonder how far I could drive it with that last fuel bar lit up..

(Incidently, that 42 litres got me 250 miles of mixed driving, 27mpg - not bad!)

HRS2000 had no bars left at Megameet and still made it to the nearest petrol station.

Funnily enough, I've just 10 minutes ago ran out. Doh! But fortunately got going again and made it the half a mile to the garage, but still only got in 49 litres.

Light was on as I left Oxford last night, but still two bars. Then this morning no bars. So that's 60 miles with the light on; 305 in total. I don't understand why as I typically do just over 300 on the same journey and there's 5 litres or so left when I fill up; perhaps it didn't properly fill last time.

You must be a newbie if you think 1 bar left is empty.

I have done 30 miles on 0 bars of fuel. That was on the motorway before filling up, average speed probably 65-70

If i run out during the week I have a 4 miles commute each. 0 Bars will last me 2 days - 16 miles roughly.

I trust my fuel gauge as much as I trust my misses driving my car.

It seems to be trip computer, not a fuel gauge. Basically it seems to tell you how much you have left at current consumption. For example I managed to add two bars between the coffee break and lunch at MM9, because I didn't have a chance to put my foot down compared to the morning session. I assume that when the reserve light comes on you must have gallon or so left, but I'd ignore the bars (sits back and awaits the peole who actually know how it works )

I've seen mine do that before as well soupdragon. 'just never let it go to one bar before and assumed it would be a lot closer to empty! Think I might let it go down to zero bars and then try again

Mine goes 4-3-2-1-0 pretty quickly - are you saying that I've got a heavy right foot
