Synchromesh on 2nd gear
Hi, I've had my car now for coming up for a year. When the car is cold then going from 1st to 2nd it crunches.
Give it 10 - 15 miles and get her nice and warm and it gets better.
Is this common and can it be cured by replacing the gearbox oil?
Cars done 50k miles and is a MY01.

Mine does that and its a bitch to get into first when its cold aswell when stopping at a junction, does my head in.
gearbox is really nice when its warm though
Ive adapted to holding the gear stick right down at the bottom when its cold it seems to change smoother haha

Mine is the same, even 3rd can be notchy. I've changed the oil and it didn't make a huge difference.
If you hold the gear lever lightly onto the 2nd gear for a second or two, it'll slip in smoothly. If you try to ram it in while it's still cold, it'll crunch.
All gears are fine on mine when it's warmed up, though this can take a while if I'm in stop start traffic.
Mine has 69000 miles on the clock.

Most of then do it to some degree, mines not to bad as i change the gear box and diff oil often being done again soon . When was the last time yours was changed have a look through any receipts or service records, it will do no harm changing it anyway.

Mine always crunches into second when cold, as you say nice and smooth when warm. Changed gearbox oil, made no odds.
Sometimes when pulling away it jumps out of second too, but mostly when I don't engage it correctly as its cold.
Sometimes I cover myself in peanut butter and run into the giraffe enclosure...wait, thats for the mammal-loverUK forum, scrap that.

Also swapped gear oil, better initially but problem persists when cold only not as bad.
Chaaaaaaaaange moooooooore slooooooooooowly
I pause a little in the neutral part of the gate before pulling into second, works for me.

Mine did that about a year ago and gradually got worse, then started doing it at all temps and jumping when stationery - turned out to be the clutch that was fecked. Replaced that and problem solved.
