When I changed at the first 9k service, my dealer told me that, if I changed to Helix Ultra, then I should stick to that in future.
Did that and the oil consumption dropped dramatically. The engine revs more freely, but seems a bit more noisy - a subjective judgement I realise.
Only problem with Helix Ultra is the wallet empying price! Nearly 60 smackers for 8-litres - haven't yet found a trade place that stocks it.

Another simple question:

Does oil 'go off' once the container has been opened or does it keep forever? I too use Mobil1 0W-40 from Halfords and supply my dealer with 2 x 4 litres to use in the service, which means they hand back to me a part-emptied container with 3 litres in it. As my S uses hardly any oil (my week's holiday around Northern Spain at up to 145mph didn't even drop one point on the dipstick), so can I make up one full 4 litre container from the part used ones or is this a bad idea?

Just hope it doesn't go off -- since the 3-litres left from the 8-litres that I give to the dealer will more than last me for top-ups until the next service is due.

Exactly my point, CC. Does it oxidise or pasteurise or something equally horrible?
