Thanx for advise, but ive got a CAI already that routes through to the bottom of the inner wing for better cold air and I have only ever put Optimax in it. From the sound of it, it seems a common trait then ? Surprised no-one has pinned it down yet tho.
Is it the same with post 04 cars aswell ?

Not a major problem once you know it might happen.

If it was the throttle body needing to be cleaned, would it still happen on a car thats only a few weeks old?

More likely the throttle position sensor, which is a potentiometer (if its the same as other cars - not looked yet!) But again it would only wander with age. Lambda and MAP sensors are othe bets, as both these have an input into fuelling....

My 54 has been doing this recently - caught me out the other day turning right across traffic, nearly killed me !
I assumed it was just hot air and I needed to save up for a CAI

I drive a lot in heavy traffic every day to and from work, about 65 miles including motorway and about 7-8 miles of 'crawling'. Can't say it's a problem I'd thought about until reading this thread.
Having thought about it while driving I can see what people mean, I think I just compensated by revving a little more and 'feathering' the clutch. I had an MGF that was mildly modded before the 'S' and it was a problem with that too so maybe I'm just used to the quirks of the car.

Had my S2 for 9 months now & had same problem although as the 20K approached & passed the problem went too. I asked the dealer for his opinion as he also drives an S2 & yes his does the same.
When it first happened to me i was so surprised ( & embarrassed ) that i stalled the er.There was a massive ' dead spot ' at low revs & then it started to jump around like a kangeroo & i even briefly thought that id bought a duff motor as my Type-R never did anything like this at all. Thats all history now & you will get used to it. Spending money on mod's is great fun & running on Optimax may enable the car to operate more smoothly but i don't think it is a fuel delivery or intake problem so we are all going to have to live with it. Don't worry its just a quirk in the engines design. Cough's like a sailor on 60 woodbines a day at low revs but sings like a saprano at 9000. U know what i mean............. : :
