A knackered battery will prevent the car from running since it is part of the electrical circuit.
Nope it wont.

I had a battery in my car in Canada that had frozen solid - held about as much charge as a metal housebrick - but if I jumpstarted it then it would drive fine all day - but as soon as I turned the engine off I had no power.

It will if it is drawing a lot of current pulling the voltage too low

Not sure if they've changed it now but the Hellfrauds battery that was recommended had the terminals round the wrong way Have always bought from Honda since then.

Yeh the FAQ does state that the right one is the HB053 as the one they recommend has the terminals the wrong way

Am i right in saying that if the alternator has a problem the battery light would come on permanently to indicate no charge going to the battery?

UPDATE:

Right, I bought myself a new battery and installed this morning. Started beautifully BUT i then drove down the road and got about a mile away and as I got to the junction and began going down to lower revs it cut out. The battery light came on, but I straight away went to neutral and press the start button and the car started again allowing me to drive back until I went down to the lower rev range again.

Basically it is happening everytime i get to a junction or slow down after I have been driving.

Any ideas?

Right, last night and this morning I have taken it out and it is no longer stopping! Could it be the ECU?

Is she stalling at idle??? It does that if it's been disconnected from the battery for a while until it 're-learns' the idle point. I have that problem every time I've disconnected the battery for the first drive - then it's fine.

Does sound like battery might be dead as well though.
