Thumbs up Strange Wheel Phenomenon.

Noticed a strange thing a couple of months ago..... one of my wheels had some tiny spots appear under the laquer.... they've gradually grown & now a couple have sort of 'popped' through - also a couple of spots on another wheel on the same side.

I don't think I'll have any prob with warranty - Kitty is only a year old & you can see it's not 'outside-in' damage....

But.... the really annoying thing is - that the wheel that I have damaged isn't affected.

Anyone else had this happen?

A

heard about a few new Toyota owners (being a moderator on ToyotaOwnersClub) having the same issue.

I believe "Mr T" replaces all four under warranty.

Wonder what's making a lot of the new alloys corrode quicker ..

It's hot brake dust eating into the alloy.

Best thing to do is remove the brakes, cut a hole in the floor, and wear really big shoes.

you see, if you'd got the more butch 01 model, the wheels would be out of warranty, however due to the protruding design you can guarantee the dealer will mash them when changing the tyres and have to refurb them for free (happenend to me twice now )

Where as the wee backstreet garage that put the winter set on, did it perfectly without a scratch.

Maybe Anna, I haven't figured out if its brake bits stuck to the wheel yet though!

This isn't brake dust or road bits - I'll post pics when I take them - it's right on the outside - the flat smooth bit in the spokes.

very odd

Sounds like Toyota are a lot nicer on warranty than Honda are. I had about 8 wheels on my MR2 Roadster in about 2.5 years. 8!!!! but they never questioned it, even if the rims were scuffed.

I've already scuffed a rear rim whilst turning away from the kerb on my S2000. Not a happy moment for me.

I had this happen on a set of '02 wheels, its moisture getting under the lacquer it will only get worse if it is i'm afraid.
