Your wheels arent warm are they?
I guess they would be as its after a cruise at 80 for a period of time, so yes.

I have not stopped, got out and tries to check, because I know they would be hot, but as to what that means I do not know.

Yep! Quite a few links on the web about it doing it when your foot is off the brakes.

My wife often complains of a strange grinding in the rear whilst she's asleep.

I often wake up with a black eye because of it too!
LOL @ 'Tricky Brown' attempt....
Just ask, what have you got to lose?

Result of Stealer check!

--- WOW this thread was back 9 pages, we are a busy posting lot on this forum

Anyway, took a technician from the Cribbs Causeway stealership for a short drive so he could experience the problem, unfortunately there was plenty of traffic after 11 and after some stupid driving around the Mall bypass we experienced a small vibration and noise.

He puts it on the ramp and checks out the brakes, discs, hub nuts and diff oil.

Results:
Tightened the hub nuts
Said the discs looked bad inside and the rear brakes were sticking (he did something) and they should be okay now
Checked the diff oil, said it was dirty / dark, so I had new diff oil as well

The car is back and drives nice, but wont know until the weekend when I can give it a serious drive and test to see if the problem has gone totally.
(wonder if my over enthusiastic drive will bring back sticking brake problem )

Certainly I am more convinced now that is was brake related rather than diff related.

Anyway at least its had a good investigation and I feel happier, plus with the nice weather today I was able to drive around all day with the roof down as I took the day off work

Thanks all for your comments and help

Rear brakes do seem to stick / sieze badly on these cars.

Glad you got a result though!

Id be inclined to just leave it on one click of its parked in the garage...
